165 reviews4.8Sensational show. Audra is Lady Day and she made me laugh and cry...sensational.
A very powerful and moving performance by the leading lady portraying the final years of Billie Holiday. Really enjoyed the three accompanying musicians making for a truly enjoyably evening. Would not hesitate to see the show again if it ever comes round. Certainly rated this show five stars
Audra McDonald's performance transports you to into spiralling decline of Billie Holiday latter so powerfully. At times it was so raw but poignant that I had no trouble in suspending my disbelief - she was Lady Day!
Totally amazing. Vocals and band were incredible
Amazing I would see it again
A wonderful show with a fantastic star
Aa good as all the reviewway said.
Excellent show, and Audra was stunning. A difficult role which she played superbly.
Great show a little bit different from what i expected, but very good, great voice and real story Theatre could do with more fresh air, sat perspiring, not so good Still 5 star show
Audra McDonald WAS Billie Holiday! Best show of the year for me!
Myself and my wife thought it was brilliant . Long session without a toilet break , though ????
First the venue and stage set was excellent, intimate and a cracking 3 piece band. The portrayal of Billie Holiday was outstanding, heartbreaking, I had tears in my eyes from the first note of her cracked and beautiful voice. The story line was so cleverly interwoven through songs and communication to the audience.Huge respect to Audra McDonald, she was just mesmerising.

REVIEW: Lady Day "a theatrical triumph"
Lady Day was originally slated to make its West End debut - along with McDonald making hers, too - last year. However, a surprise pregnancy rocked McDonald's world and alas, the show was cancelled. I cannot tell you how devastated I was at the thought of not getting to see McDonald in this play after all, but to my great joy, the show is here in the West End a year later and was well worth the long wait.

REVIEW: Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill
Enter into the Wyndham’s theatre and you will be transported back to 1959 South Philadelphia. On the front of the stalls and the sides of the stage are cabaret tables for the audience to sit back in and soak up the atmosphere of this small, run down bar. And why are we all gathered in this dive? Because the act about to take the stage is the legendary Billie Holiday in Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill
