SOUTHWARK AND BANKSIDE - ENTERTAINING LONDON

Meet 10:30 London Bridge Station, Duke Street Hill exit
|
| |
‘London Bridge is falling down’ says the nursery rhyme – but why?
|
| |
| On this entertaining walk through the streets south of the river we’ll hear about the varied activities this area was famed for: bear-baiting, theatre, brewing and trade. Inns were numerous and we visit London’s last remaining galleried coaching inn, conjuring up images of Dickensian London. Bustling Borough Market has been a busy trading place for over 250 years and on Fridays you can enjoy the sights and smells of its delicious food stalls. It has also featured in several famous films! |
| |
| We’ll find a hidden garden or two, see Shakespeare’s reconstructed Globe theatre and enjoy magnificent views across the mighty River Thames. And as for London Bridge? Come on this walk to find out! |

St Paul’s to Temple - Hidden London |
| |
London is full of hidden gems and on this afternoon walk we discover several of them ‘off the beaten track’. A peaceful 18th century square, an unexpected roof garden, a circular church plus a gentle fountain in the atmospheric legal area of Temple. Hear the stories of these less-visited places, at least one of which you may just recognise from ‘The Da Vinci Code’! |
